Vietnam has its first female chief executive with the appointment of Vice President Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tinh after President Tran Dai Quang died Friday from a serious illness, Bloomberg reports. She has been a Communist Party member since 1979. Born on Christmas Day in 1959, the 59-year-old Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tinh from the central province of Quảng Nam, is permanent president of the Vietnam Women’s Union, Newsweek reports, quoting Vietnam News. Vietnam Sunday announced a state funeral and two days of national mourning for President Tran Dai Quang, who died Friday aged 61, Free Malaysia Today reports. Flags will be flown at half-mast and entertainment venues shut for two days starting September 26, when Quang’s body will lie in state in Hanoi before being buried in his home town in Ninh Binh province the next day.
