A second group of local firms has started construction on projects such as hotels, shopping malls and hospitals in the nation’s new capital city Nusantara, which is currently under development in North Penajem Paser, East Kalimantan. During a collective groundbreaking ceremony officiated by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Wednesday, Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority head Bambang Susantono said the President had instructed his office to “prioritize local investors” before opening projects to foreign investors. Among the projects inaugurated at the ceremony was the Pakuwon Nusantara project helmed PT Pakuwon Nusantara Abadi (PNA), a subsidiary of publicly listed property firm PT Pakuwon Jati. PNA director Alexander Stefanus Ridwan Suhendra said at Wednesday’s event that the company had invested Rp 5 trillion (US$313.5 million) into the multifunctional residential complex, which would have one mall, three hotels with 800 rooms, two condominium towers and an apartment complex. The firm was working on the project with major international hotel brands, such as Sheraton, Marriott and Westin.  Two other publicly listed companies, Mayapada and Hermina, broke ground on two hospitals in Nusantara. Other property development projects that commenced on Wednesday include two international schools, the new national headquarters of Bank Indonesia and the Workers Social Security Agency (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan) and a 50-megawatt solar farm belonging to state electricity company PLN. Bambang said Wednesday’s ceremony covered projects totaling Rp 12 trillion in investments. Another ceremony planned for December would break ground on another batch of investment projects totaling Rp 10 trillion, he said. Read more at:
