Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul held a plenary meeting with Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing during the latter’s official visit to Thailand, focusing on strengthening comprehensive bilateral cooperation between the two neighboring nations, according to a press release by the Thai government 6 August. Both sides reaffirmed their close ties and committed to advancing cooperation across security, economy, cross-border trade, development, and shared transboundary challenges, the report says. The Thai Prime Minister emphasized the importance of border stability and the suppression of transnational crimes, including narcotics trafficking and online scams, alongside efforts to promote border trade. Key initiatives include the reopening of the Second Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge and the hosting of the Joint Trade Committee (JTC) meeting this year to boost regional commerce and transport connectivity. Thailand reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights of Myanmar workers through new agreements, while both countries pledged closer cooperation on tackling transboundary haze and water pollution, as well as expanding collaboration in public health, agriculture, and space technology.
