The ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) may find itself in the role of sole opposition in the coming months as Prabowo Subianto prepares to assume the presidency, according to an analyst. The PDI-P, which has been the driving force behind the current government, has found itself at odds with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, particularly after his son became the running mate for Prabowo. The party nominated former Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo for president and demanded full support for its nominee from Jokowi and his son, both of whom are party executives. However, Jokowi’s son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, garnered support from the rival Golkar Party to become Prabowo’s ticket mate, resulting in their victory.
