Anthropic, the world’s most valuable AI startup at US$965 billion, will open a Singapore office in October and hire locally for a range of roles. The Raffles Place office will be Anthropic’s fifth in the Asia-Pacific region, joining locations in Tokyo, Bengaluru, Seoul and Sydney. Anthropic said Wednesday that it plans to hire for a range of roles in Singapore as it expands its presence in Southeast Asia, The Straits Times reported.
Its careers website listed nine Singapore-based openings across applied AI, finance, marketing, sales and economic research.
The company said it chose Singapore for its concentration of technical talent, global businesses and research institutions, as well as its strong innovation ecosystem. The city state is already one of the strongest markets for Claude, Anthropic’s AI assistant, ranking second among 121 countries and territories for usage relative to population, according to the company’s latest Economic Index. Usage is 5.81 times higher than would be expected based on its population. Anthropic plans to work with organizations ranging from startups and digital businesses to large enterprises and the public sector. Demand has been particularly strong in regulated sectors such as financial services and government, the company said. Dale Finlay, Anthropic’s general manager for ASEAN, will be based in Singapore and work with customers and partners across Southeast Asia.
Anthropic raised $65 billion in May in a funding round led by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks and Sequoia Capital, giving it a post-money valuation of $965 billion. The valuation put Anthropic ahead of rival OpenAI, whose latest completed funding round in March valued it at $852 billion, making Anthropic the world’s most valuable AI startup, according to Forbes.
