The Cambodian government and the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have agreed to strengthen security cooperation, pledging closer collaboration to combat transnational crime, drug trafficking and cyber-enabled fraud.
Prime Minister Hun Manet met FBI Director Kash Patel yesterday at the Peace Palace to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation on law enforcement and regional security.
During the meeting, Patel thanked the government for its close partnership with the FBI and noted recent efforts to crack down on online scam operations. He said cyber-enabled fraud is a global challenge rather than the responsibility of any single country, adding that strong regional and international cooperation is essential to tackle the growing threat instead of shifting blame. Patel pledged continued US support and partnership with local law enforcement agencies, expressing confidence that bilateral relations will continue to strengthen.
In response, Mr Hun Manet welcomed the bilateral relations across sectors including the economy, trade, investment, defense and security. The prime minister said both nations have maintained effective cooperation in the security sector, adding that local authorities will work closely with Washington to combat transnational crime, drug trafficking and cyber-enabled fraud. Locations of known, reported or raided scam centres in Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar. Mr Hun Manet announced that the country will host an international conference on combating cyber scams in September 2026 to strengthen international cooperation against online fraud. Meanwhile, National Police Chief General Sar Theth announced on social media yesterday after meeting Patel that the FBI has agreed to expand cooperation in combating cyber-enabled fraud while enhancing training programs for police.
