Myanmar’s former State Counsellor, Aung San Suu Kyi, and former President Win Myint were moved from prison to their respective homes, according to sources who spoke to Mizzima. A source in Naypyidaw said 78-year-old Aung San Suu Kyi was released to her home in Naypyidaw on Tuesday morning, 16 April. Details are scarce, but the source mentioned it happened “after the cleaning of her house.” The military junta’s spokesperson, Major General Zaw Min Tun, confirmed the reports of Aung San Suu Kyi and Win Myint being moved to their homes after Eleven Media broke the news. Aung San Suu Kyi resided at No. 33, Myananbonthar Street, Zebuthiri Township in Naypyidaw, until the military coup on 1 February 2021. Before the coup announcement, soldiers raided her home and took her to an undisclosed location before transferring her again to Naypyidaw prison. Meanwhile, ousted President Win Myint was also moved from Taunggoo prison to his home in Naypyidaw.

A source close to the junta told Mizzima that political prisoners, including top brass from the National League for Democracy, might also be released. However, Mizzima has not been able to confirm this information independently. Read more at: https://eng.mizzima.com/2024/04/16/9046#google_vignette
