Vietnam condemns fabricated report by Human Rights Watch

The foreign ministry says the content of a recent press release by Human Rights Watch (HRW) regarding Vietnam is “factually inaccurate” and “fabricated.” “We completely refute and condemn this so-called Human Rights Watch for its factually inaccurate and fabricated information,” spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said at a Thursday press meet. HRW, established in 1978, is an international non-governmental organization based in New York, the U.S. The organization issued a press release earlier this month, saying Vietnam’s human rights situation in 2023 was “gloomy.” Hang said it was not the first time that HRW put forth accusatory arguments with malicious intent targeting Vietnam, aiming to sabotage the country’s socio-economic development and separating it from the international community. “The efforts, determination and achievements of the government of Vietnam in ensuring the basic rights of humans has been demonstrated through the results of the socio-economic development of Vietnam, and has been already recognized and highly appreciated by people domestically and the international community,” Hang added. Previously, Hang said Vietnam had submitted international pledges to show its unrelenting commitment to protecting and promoting human rights. Back in October 2022, Vietnam was voted onto the U.N.
