Prime Minister Hun Manet urged stakeholders to promote social and gender equality in order to eradicate malaria by 2025, with a particular emphasis on providing nondiscriminatory diagnostic and treatment services for malaria patients in rural, hard-to-reach locations. Mr Hun Manet made the remarks yesterday marking the National Malaria Day 2024, which is held today under the theme “Promoting Equity, Health, Gender Equality and Human Rights to Fight Malaria”. He said that Cambodia is on the right track, actively engaging in global efforts to reach the malaria-free objective via hard work and commitment to implementing the National Malaria Eradication Strategic Plan by 2025. He said that Cambodia is getting closer to eradicating all forms of malaria by 2025, citing major successes such as malaria drug resistance prevention and a reduction of 1,384 cases. There have not been any malaria deaths from 2018 until now. He added that all parties involved in the collaborative efforts to eradicate malaria in Cambodia, including development partners, the Ministry of Health, the National Centre for Malaria Control, health staff, the malaria eradication team, local authorities, volunteers, and the public, should be proud of their achievements. Mr Hun Manet urged all stakeholders to work together to speed up the implementation of the Malaria Eradication Action Plan, which is the final stage towards achieving a malaria-free Cambodia by 2025 and countries in the Greater Mekong Subregion by 2030.
