The Arakan Army (AA) announced on 20 September that two Myanmar military personnel were captured during fighting on 16 September between Kwan Taung and Myint Kyun, near the Sittwe–Ponnagyun area in Rakhine State. The incident is another indication that armed clashes remain active in Rakhine.
Military activity also continued in Magway Region. According to the battalion, one military vehicle was destroyed, and there may have been casualties among personnel as well as damage to weapons and military equipment. Meanwhile, the Myanmar military carried out airstrikes in two KNU brigade areas, injuring one local resident and damaging six buildings, including a school, according to local sources. The incident shows that air attacks and their impact on civilians continue in conflict-affected areas. Beyond military developments, efforts are also being made to consolidate the administrative structures of revolutionary forces. Dr. Ye Htun Zaw, Prime Minister of the Magway Federal Unit Government, told Mizzima in an exclusive interview that an agreement had been reached with the National Unity Government (NUG) to transfer People’s Administration, People’s Security and People’s Defence bodies within the Magway Federal Unit under the command of the unit government. This points to an effort to bring not only military forces but also local administration and security mechanisms under a more unified structure. Su Thit, founder of Spouses of People’s Soldiers, also spoke on the Insight Myanmar Podcast about the difficulties faced by military defectors and their families, including food, employment, housing and psychological stress. Her comments underline that leaving the military is not only a security decision but also involves the difficult process of rebuilding civilian life afterwards. Alongside political and military developments, people inside Myanmar continue to face pressures related to daily living and natural hazards. In Taunggyi, southern Shan State, a large boulder rolled into the compound of the State Department of Mines office in Thit Taw Ward, damaging one building and two vehicles.
