UN investigators issued a statement on Monday saying that Myanmar’s military “attempted genocide” in the mass killings and gang rapes of Muslim Rohingyas and that the commander-in-chief and five generals should be prosecuted for the gravest crimes under international law, Reuters reports. Also on Monday, CNBC reported that Facebook had removed Myanmar’s powerful military chief and 19 other individuals and organizations from its site to prevent the spread of hate and misinformation. In light of the investigator’s report, Human Rights Watch called on the UN Security Council to launch an intervention in a bid to preserve evidence and to hold those responsible accountable.
