Marriage in Asian cultures, Malaysia specifically, is the union of two families — crucial for alliances, stabilizing society, financial security and filial piety towards elders. Somewhere along the line, love, mutual attraction and affection also became the mainstay of marriage. Arranged or even child marriages are rare, occurring only sparingly in rural or ultraconservative circles.
