Bickering between Malaysia and Singapore over their maritime and air boundaries continued for a second day on Wednesday, as both sides hunkered down on their respective positions after abruptly taking the disputes public a day earlier, South China Morning Post reports. Singapore Ministry of Transport (MOT) has rejected the contention that Malaysia’s sovereignty was compromised in any manner because Singapore provides air traffic services over south Johor. Meanwhile, the country’s Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan spoke to his Malaysian counterpart Saifuddin Abdullah about Malaysia’s purported extension of the Johor Bahru port limits, urging Malaysia to cease intrusions into Singapore territorial waters to avoid escalating tensions on the ground.
