Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is suing a vocal critic of his government for defamation for sharing an article on Facebook that suggested he was involved in Malaysia’s multibillion dollar 1MDB financial scandal, South China Morning Post reports. Singapore’s High Commission in Malaysia has described an online news article linking the prime minister to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal as fake news and libelous. The Nov 7 article was carried on the website of The Coverage, which describes itself as a “social news network based in Malaysia”, according to The Strait Times. Malaysia’s anti-corruption agency has charged the former Prime Minister Najib Razak with three counts of money laundering as part of its investigation into the multi-billion dollar 1MDB scandal.
