Cambodia’s prime minister on Saturday accused the US government of being dishonest in its announced suspension of aid to the Southeast Asian nation, saying Cambodia had already stopped receiving aid from Washington in 2016. The White House decision came after a crackdown by the government and its allies against critics of Hun Sen before a general election in July. Last year, Kem Sokha, leader of the main opposition party Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) was arrested over allegations of treason. Prime Minister Hun Sen accused the opposition president of conspiring with the United States to oust his regime. The party was latter dissolved by the Supreme Court at the request of Hun Sen’s government.
