President Rodrigo Duterte may not be making any public statements so far about a China chopper harassing a Philippine Navy rubber boat in Ayungin Shoal, but he expressed concern about the safety of the military personnel involved. Philippine Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano on Wednesday, however, did not categorically call it a form of “harassment,” as he preferred to label it an “incident.” He said the Philippines, in any case, has filed a diplomatic protest. According to Newsweek, two members of Duterte’s government have discussed the possibility of war in the disputed waters of the South China Sea, where China has built several man-made islands to strengthen its territorial claims and equipped them with military facilities.
