The de facto leader of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Anwar Ibrahim unofficially won the post of PKR president on Sunday as no other individual sent their nomination form to challenge him in the party’s election, Channel News Asia reports. Anwar has walked free after being granted a pardon for sodomy by the country’s king last May. He was serving a five-year prison sentence for sodomy charges he says were politically motivated. In an interview with Al-Jazeera last month, Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad confirmed that Anwar would replace him as Malaysia’s highest ranking government officer, a pre-condition that had been agreed upon before the last general election in May.
