Vietnam has cautiously engaged with the Indo-Pacific Strategy (IPS) in order to not upset its complex relationship with China. Despite not officially supporting the US-led IPS, Vietnam shows interest in a regional rules-based order which can contribute to peaceful solutions for the South China Sea dispute and has been increasing its diplomatic, economic and defense ties with the United States, while maintaining a stable relationship with China and avoiding actions that could be interpreted as aligning against it.
