The Philippine foreign affairs department said Monday authorities were repatriating 10,000 overstaying Filipinos from Kuwait, taking advantage of an amnesty program arranged with the Kuwaiti government. As Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has made good on his threat to ban his citizens from going to Kuwait for work, some 10,000 Filipino workers are now stranded in their home country despite having all the necessary documents. Kuwaiti Foreign Affairs Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Khalid al-Sabah suggested that Duterte could damage ties between Kuwait and the Philippines, adding that the line for cooperation was open.
