Mariano Blanco, mayor of the southern town of Ronda who was on President Rodrigo Duterte’s list of allegedly narcotics-linked officials, was shot dead in his own office on Wednesday, Agence-France Presse reports. Armed men disembarked from a van and barged into the mayor’s office. Following a burst of gunfire, the assailants immediately left the premises, ABS-CBN reported, quoting the police. Blanco was the 16th elected official killed under the Duterte administration.   Separately on Wednesday, one of Duterte’s fiercest critic, Senator Antonio Trillanes, remained holed up in the Senate to avoid what he considers an illegal arrest after Duterte voided his amnesty for his role as a rebel military officer, the Associated Press reports.
