Rosmah Mansor, the wife of former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, was arrested on Wednesday by the country’s anti-graft commission (MACC) in connection with an investigation into the embezzlement of state funds 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB). Citing sources privy to the investigation of Madam Rosmah, New Straits Times said she could be hit with up to 20 criminal charges. One of the charges, the report said, is likely to pertain to the purchase of hormone-based anti-ageing products from the United States worth just over RM1 million. Tom Wright, the journalist who broke the story on 1MDB scandal and later wrote a book about it, “Billion Dollar Whale”, said Rosmah was the gatekeeper who gave playboy businessman Jho Low access to Malaysia’s highest echelons of power.
