At least 10 children and five women were killed when a trawler carrying Rohingyas from Myanmar capsized off Bangladesh coast on Thursday. One survivor told The Daily Star that the boat was carrying about 90 people, many of them women and children. AFP news agency put the figure at about 120. The incident came as the United Nations said that the number of Rohingya who have fled to neighboring Bangladesh since violence erupted in Myanmar’s Rakhine state on August 25 had exceeded half a million. The United States says action must be taken against Myanmar’s military leaders whose operations forced Rohingyas to flee into Bangladesh.
