A Malaysian task force investigating a multibillion-dollar scandal at state fund 1MDB is working with counterparts in neighbouring Singapore to retrieve funds believed to have been misappropriated, it said on Thursday. Newly-appointed Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng has asked Najib Razak to explain where $8.3 billion raised and planned for certain ventures had “gone to,” implying funds may have been misused when the former leader was chairman of 1MDB’s advisory board. Former Umno leader Khairuddin Abu Hassan met Interpol officials in France on Wednesday to ask them to locate Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low, who is allegedly linked to the misappropriation of billions of ringgit from 1MDB.
