Indonesia under President Prabowo Subianto appears to have entered a post-Islamist arrangement, with no major Islamist party standing in open opposition. But this convergence rests on state coercion and political patronage rather than voluntary ideological transformation. Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia remains operationally active, the Islamic Defenders Front has rebranded, the Prosperous Justice Party has only temporarily suspended its ideological project while Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah were never Islamist to begin with.
