Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte vowed to correct “historical injustice” in a speech to Muslim rebels on Monday as his government seeks to reignite a stalled peace process in the nation’s troubled south.  As the first successful presidential candidate from Mindanao, Duterte has never failed to remind the Catholic-majority electorate about the moral and political obligation to “correct the historical injustice committed against the Moro people”. The president has repeatedly said that he would support the establishment of a more independent and powerful Bangsamoro homeland in the country.
