Myanmar’s High Court has allowed an appeal to proceed in the case of two Reuters reporters jailed for seven years on charges of breaking the country’s Official Secrets Act, defence lawyers said on Tuesday, Reuters reports. U.S. Vice President Mike Pence pressed Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi  “multiple times” last week to pardon Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo who are jailed in her country, a senior White House official said. The two were found guilty in September of breaching the Official Secrets Act and sentenced to seven years in prison. Pardoning the two journalists would reaffirm the government’s commitment to those ideals and renew the world’s hope – and that of the two courageous, patriotic reporters – for a transformed, unified Myanmar, writes Stephen J. Adler, Reuters editor-in-chief.
