Dr. Zakir Naik, the controversial Indian Muslim preacher who is wanted by Indian authorities, met with Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad today, sources have confirmed with Free Malaysia Today. It is unclear what Naik discussed with Mahathir in their first meeting since Pakatan Harapan took power in Putrajaya, though the meeting, which was unscheduled, was said to be brief. The meeting comes a day after Mahathir said that the controversial Indian Islamic preacher allegedly wanted in his home country for terror-related activities and hate speech will not be deported. India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) made a formal request to Malaysia in January for Naik’s deportation. He is being probed under terror and money laundering charges by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He left India in July 2016.
