Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad’s dream of developing a home-grown automotive brand has courted interest from neighboring countries, as the Southeast Asia region forges stronger ties to weather out the US-China trade tensions, Bloomberg reports. In August, Malaysia’s Entrepreneur Development Minister Mohd Redzuan told the press that the country’s third national car project was set to launch by 2020 as envisioned by Mahathir. Two automotive industry players have submitted proposals on the third national car project so far, the Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI) said. Chief Executive Officer Datuk Madani Sahari said the agency would, however, wait until Monday for all the proposals to be submitted before studying them, according to Malay Mail.
