Philippine President Rodgrigo Duterte arrived in Bali Wednesday night as he is scheduled to meet his Indonesian counterpart Joko Widodo and other ASEAN leaders for a summit scheduled for today. The two leaders are also expected to meet for a bilateral meeting to discuss a range of issues, particularly trade and terrorism. The Summit is held on the sidelines of the IMF and World Bank annual meeting, where finance ministers and central bankers from 180 nations meet amid tremors in the global economy rising protectionism, vulnerable emerging markets and record debt levels. The Summit also prepares ASEAN leaders for the APEC Summit next month, where the US is expected to table new measures and programs to ensure an open Indo-Pacific region amid a growing security tension between claimants of territories in the South China Sea.
