Vietjet’s first direct flights from Indian cities New Delhi and Mumbai arrived in Da Nang Tuesday, marking the launch of the services. There are four weekly flights to Delhi and three to Mumbai. The budget carrier also plans to start flying between Da Nang and India’s Ahmedabad in December as the city seeks to tap into the Indian tourist market. Tran Phuoc Son, vice chairman of Da Nang, said the start of services between India and Da Nang, offers opportunities for the city to increase international tourist arrivals in the absence of major markets like China, Da Nang news portal reported. Last month Vietjet began direct services to New Delhi and Mumbai from Phu Quoc Island. Vietnam received 94,000 Indian visitors in the first nine months of this year. There had been 200,000 in 2019, the year before Covid began. Since March Vietnam has allowed quarantine-free entry and resumed its pre-pandemic visa policies under which Indians can apply for e-visas to enter the country. This year 200,000 international visitors have come to Da Nang, well above its full-year target of 180,000.
