Netflix has removed South Korean movie “Little Women” from its Vietnam roster following Vietnamese authorities’ complaints about it falsifying Vietnam War history.

A Netflix representative said Thursday the movie was removed from Netflix in Vietnam “in accordance with a document (submitted) by the Authority of Broadcasting and Electronic Information under the Ministry of Information and Communications.” The Vietnamese agency requested removal of the movie because it violated national media and cinema laws with actors making inaccurate statements about the Vietnam War in episodes 3 and 8. “Netflix has always upheld and abided by the laws and agreements regarding content with violations. However, due to the large number of films, they admitted that there are mistakes, still. Netflix said it would ramp up self-monitoring and minimize the mistakes,” Do added. Netflix is also looking into regulations to open either a representative office or a company in Vietnam, he said. In July last year, the streaming giant also withdrew six episodes of its spy drama “Pine Gap” after regulators found it contained “illegal images” of the infamous “nine-dash line.” The K-drama Netflix series “Little Women” is an adaptation from the classic novel of the same name, but with a different spin to suit Korean taste, premiered in September. The film, directed by Jung Seo Kyung and produced by Kim Hee Won, follows the travails of three impoverished sisters, Oh In-Joo (Kim Go Eun), Oh In Kyung (Nam Ji Hyun) and Oh In Hye (Park Park. Ji Hoo). Read more at: https://e.vnexpress.net/news/life/netflix-removes-k-drama-little-women-from-vietnam-roster-over-history-distortion-4520151.html
