Veteran editor and Mahathir Mohamad’s communication adviser, A. Kadir Jasin, alleges in his personal
blog that several Malay sultans tried to stop Mahathir from becoming prime minister after the Pakatan
Harapan (PH) alliance won the May 9 general election, Strait Times reports. On Tuesday, during her first
visit to Indonesia as Deputy Prime Minister, Wan Azizah Wan Ismail admitted that she was offered the
top post by Sultan Muhammad V of Kelantan after the election. She turned down the offer, citing a
promise made to Mahathir prior to the election. Three months before, the Kelantan Palace revoked the
Darjah Kerabat Al-Yunusi title that was awarded to Mahathir in 2002 by then Sultan Ismail Petra. The
Palace failed to provide a reason for its decision
