Foreign Affairs Minister Prak Sokhonn met with newly appointed United Nations Development Programme representative Pauline Tamesis yesterday.

After the meeting, Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Chum Sounry said Ms Tamesis confirmed UNDP’s commitment to continue cooperating with Cambodia and supporting policies of the government.

Ms Tamesis has replaced Claire Van der Vaeren, who recently finished her mission in Cambodia, Mr Sounry said.  Mr Sounry added that Mr Sokhonn told the UNDP representative about the commitment of the government to respect democracy, human rights and continue to develop Cambodia.

Mr Sounry said Ms Tamesis would cooperate with the government to further enhance partnerships.

According to a statement from UNDP yesterday, Ms Tamesis said that both sides discussed the prospects of a strategic partnership to help the country reach its sustainable development goals.

“I also took opportunity to reaffirm the commitment of the United Nations to support Cambodia’s national development priorities,” Ms Tamesis said in the statement.
