US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson spoke on Thursday with Myanmar army chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and expressed concern over reported atrocities against Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine State. Peter Maurer, president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) told the Thomson Reuters Foundation, a combination of escalating violence, worsening health and poor access to conflict zones in Myanmar’s Rakhine state is fuelling a humanitarian crisis that is “spinning out of control.” A UN settlement program, UN-Habitat in Myanmar, on Thursday rejected a state media report that it had agreed to help build housing for people fleeing the violence.
