The cabinet last week approved a first-of-its-kind bill requiring foreign digital platforms to pay a value-added tax (VAT) from payments they received from users in Thailand. This makes Thailand the latest country in Southeast Asia to collect tax from international tech companies which have reaped huge income from online services operated in these countries with no proper tax obligations.
