The Immigration Bureau on Thursday announced the arrest of suspects in three cases involving a romance scam, foreign-national prostitutes and human trafficking. Bureau commissioner Pol Lt Gen Sompong Chingduang, who released details, said that in the first case, police arrested a woman identified only as Chompoonuch, alias May, 24, as she was withdrawing money from an ATM in Bung Kum district of Bangkok. She allegedly told investigators she was hired to take out cash for a romance scam operated by a Nigerian man, Emmilo, who was captured in connection with the sale of more than 7,000 ecstasy tablets on Jan 22. According to officers, the woman said she had worked for the gang for at least three months during which time she had withdrawn cash worth several million baht.
