For a strategy that defines and dictates Thailand’s development path for the next two decades, its broad direction, overly-ambitious goals along with its binding nature collectively spell trouble for future governments and the people.

The 20-year national strategy was quietly approved by the National Legislative Assembly last Friday at the height of media coverage of the cave rescue in Chiang Rai. Four NLA members abstained, while the rest approved it.
