Nearly 200 citizens in Rakhine State rallied close to the Sittwe airport, protesting the visit of UN special rapporteur on human rights, Yanghee Lee. She is scheduled to visit Maungdaw, a town in northern Rakhine state, to investigate allegations of killings, rape and torture by security forces against Rohingnya Muslims. She is also scheduled to visit Shan and Kachin states. Lee’s mission is separate from a similar effort carried out by a team of UN investigators, whose visas applications were rejected by Aung San Suu Kyi’s government earlier this week.
