Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Monday met with Indonesia’s presidential hopeful Prabowo Subianto, who is in Singapore for The Economist’s “The World in 2019” Gala dinner. The two discussed how Singapore and Indonesia can strengthen ties, The Straits Times reported, quoting Lee’s Facebook post. Mr Prabowo is seen as trailing President Joko Widodo in the polls next April. To attract voters’ interest, he has been throwing up big ideas in recent weeks. Among his core programmes is achieving self-sufficiency in food, energy and water. But with five months to go to the polling day on 17 April, there is still time for Prabowo to make up lost ground. To close the gap, he will need to take any chance he can to discredit Jokowi, writes Peter McCawley for The Interpreter.
