The Philippines’ top police chief, Ronald Dela Rosa, who oversaw a bloody war on drugs that has killed thousands of Filipinos hinted on Monday at a possible run for the presidency. “Wait for Bato to become president and I will quadruple your salaries,” Dela Rosa told his men as he denied rumours he would leave retirees out of planned salary increases. Rosa, who will retire next year, once said that critics of the government’s war on drugs were ingrates. President Rodrigo Duterte suspended his controversial war on drugs earlier this month, ending a bloody campaign that claimed thousands of lives and brought international condemnation.
