There will be no face-to-face classes until a vaccine for the coronavirus disease has been developed, President Rodrigo Duterte said on Tuesday, stressing that the welfare of students is of the utmost priority. “I will not allow the opening of classes na magdikit-dikit iyang mga bata  (where students are crowded).  Bahala na hindi na makatapos (Never mind if they don’t graduate),” he said. “Unless I am sure that they are really safe, it’s useless to be talking about the opening of classes. Para sa akin, bakuna muna (For me, vaccine should come first),” the President added. A few hours after the President issued the statement, Palace spokesman Harry Roque Jr.clarified that what Duterte meant was that physical classes would not resume until the country is in “new normal.” Roque said there would be no face-to-face classes to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
