FILIPINOS are set to enjoy a long weekend as Malacañang issued Proclamation 167 declaring February 24, Friday, a special non-working day across the country in commemoration of the 37th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.  “To enable our countrymen to avail of the benefits of a longer weekend pursuant to the principle of holiday economics the celebration of EDSA People Power Revolution Anniversary may be moved from February 25, 2023 to February 24, 2023, provided that the historical significance of EDSA People Power Revolution Anniversary is maintained,” part of the document read. President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has likewise tasked the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) to issue the appropriate circular to implement this proclamation for the private sector. The 1986 “bloodless” revolution saw Filipinos banding together in peaceful rallies to end the more than two decades of leadership of Marcos’ father and namesake, Ferdinand Sr., and put into power Corazon Aquino.
