THE Bureau of Immigration (BI) has tapped the support of its foreign counterparts to ensure the security of more than 8,000 athletes and delegates during the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games. BI Commissioner Jaime Morente on Sunday said “Project Riptide” was implemented last week to thwart the entry of foreign terrorists who might take advantage of the event. According to the Immigration chief, Project Riptide is part of the International Police’s (Interpol) major event support team (Imest) program. It was enforced by the BI and Interpol in coordination with its counterparts from France and Singapore, and funded by Interpol Tokyo.
