The meeting between the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and the regime’s National Solidarity and Peace Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) in Naypyitaw on July 19 attracted significant public attention, surprise and criticism. The talks brought together a TNLA delegation led by Lieutenant General Tar Juk Jar and an NSPNC team headed by Lieutenant General Yar Pyae. They took place amid a series of engagements between the NSPNC and various ethnic armed organizations (EAOs) from June to July, and as the deadline for the regime’s 100-day plan—announced by Min Aung Hlaing on April 20, 2026, and set to conclude at the end of July—was approaching.
