Bangladesh and Myanmar have signed the text of the physical arrangement stipulating that the Rohingya return would be completed “preferably within two years from the commencement of repatriation”, verification and repatriation will be based on considering the family as a unit. Most refugees say they will only return if their safety can be assured, their homes rebuilt, and if they are no longer subjected to official discrimination. The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) has said it wants to be part of talks between Bangladesh and Myanmar on the return of Rohingya refugees to ensure “international standards” in repatriation.
