Myanmar last week confiscated 41.5 tons of precursor chemicals and one ton of opium in raids as part of a joint operation code-named Golden Triangle 1511, Office of the Narcotics Control Board secretary-general Niyom Termsrisuk said on Wednesday. Operation Golden Triangle 1511 is a joint initiative involving six countries – China, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand – aimed at suppressing drug production in the Golden Triangle area, which straddles the borders of northern Thailand, Laos and Myanmar. A report from the Central Committee for Drugs Control (CCDC) of Myanmar said the items seized included 41.5 tons of precursor chemicals – 26.6 tons of ethyl acetic and 15 tons of ammonium nitrate – and one ton of raw opium.
