The former director of Vietnam’s infamous Hoa Lo prison recalls former prisoner of war navy pilot John McCain as an uncompromising, frank and an avid reader who fiercely debated the war with his Vietnamese jailers, the AFP reports. The former U.S. senator and presidential candidate had said that he forgave the enemies who once held him captive. Tributes from former US presidents and across the political spectrum have poured in for McCain, who has died aged 81, the BBC reports. Barack Obama, who beat Mr McCain to the White House in 2008, said they shared a “fidelity to something higher”.  McCain helped plan his own funeral and told several people that he did not want President Donald Trump to attend his funeral service, according to CNN.
