The Philippine government said on Tuesday it is uncertain which side to take in case of a military clash between North Korea and the United States and its allies, despite a mutual defence agreement between Manila and Washington. Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte once described North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as a “fool” and a “son of a bitch”, just days before Manila hosts an international meeting certain to address Pyongyang’s long-range missile tests in August. North Korea said it successfully tested a new intercontinental ballistic missile on Wednesday in a “breakthrough” that puts the U.S. mainland within range of its nuclear weapons, and increases pressure on U.S. President Donald Trump to deal with Pyongyang.
