The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) World Factbook 2017 has reported that Malaysia’s poverty rate is the lowest when compared to other Southeast Asian countries. Previously, the ASEAN-China-UNDP Report on Financing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) revealed that of the 36 million people living below the poverty line in ASEAN, 90 percent of them live in either the Philippines or Indonesia. Asia and the Pacific, home to two thirds of the world’s poor, are at the highest risk of suffering deeper poverty and disaster due to unabated climate change, reversing current development gains, according to the Asian Development Bank.
