Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has revealed today that he resigned as prime minister not on the spur of the moment, but only after he believed that he had no longer command the majority in the Dewan Rakyat. In a brief post on his blog today, Dr Mahathir refuted the claim made by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin that his sudden resignation had triggered the week-long political tumult that saw the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government fall. “The truth is that I resigned because in my admission in front of His Majesty, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, I did not receive support from my supporters. I did not receive the majority and no longer qualified to be the prime minister,” he added.
